About this Event
Celebrate National Tea Day with the Leach Pottery by joining our conversation with Lead Potter Roelof Uys and two of our long-time friends: Clary Illian and Jeff Oestreich. Clary and Jeff are both respected and long-standing North American potters who trained at the Leach Pottery in the mid and late 1960s. There's sure to be some interesting tales to tell along with insights into their current work.
This conversation is part of our ongoing Leach 100 centenary celebrations and brought to you with support from Arts Council England.
Clary Illian
Clary trained at the Leach Pottery from 1964-1965. She subsequently returned to North America, becoming a full-time potter in Iowa making playful utilitarian ware whilst also teaching across the United States and Canada.
Jeff Oestreich
Jeff trained with Warren MacKenzie, who had previously trained at the Leach Pottery (1949-1952). In 1969, Jeff undertook two years of training at the Leach and now works from his rural studio in Minnesota. He has regularly returned to St Ives over the years.
Roelof Uys
Roelof worked in Kynsa as a resident potter at Bitou Crafts, then started his own pottery in Cape Town. He moved to the UK in 1998 and worked as a potter in the Gaolyard Studios, St Ives, before joining the Leach Pottery in 2013. As Lead Potter, Roelof oversees the design and production of Leach Standard Ware and supervises the training of apprentices and volunteers in the Studio.
This conversation will be hosted as a Zoom Webinar: spaces are free but limited.
