Please consider travelling by bus, train or car share where possible. There is parking at the Field Centre, however it is limited and priority will be given to disabled badge holders.
Car share - please offer to share if you can or to take luggage and pottery for others travelling by bike or public transport. Car share can also just be for the final section from Largs. This will be co-ordinated via Facebook and Ebulletins, details will follow.
By road – The M8 motorway from Glasgow takes you to the A737, then to the A760 directly to Largs. Members may choose to leave their car in Largs, either in the car park on the main promenade next to the ferry port at £5 a day (car park postcode for sat nav. is KA30 8LZ) or on one of the back roads near the ferry terminal. N.B. Car parking is very restricted in Largs and free spaces can be a 5 - 10 minute walk from the ferry terminal. There are also options to park at one of the train stations on the line between Glasgow and Largs (for example, Kilwinning Station has a large free car park) and then continue by train or car share.
If you choose to go on the ferry as a foot passenger, follow the instructions from (1) below.
If you bring your car on the ferry, turn left when you drive off, and stay on the coast road (do not take the right turn directing you into Millport 400m from the ferry). Stay on this road for 3 km and the Centre is the first set of buildings you will see as you come into a 30mph zone. Postcode is KA28 0EG.
By bus - There is a bus service from Buchanan Street Bus Station in Glasgow ( Stance 50) to Largs
By train/ferry – With the proximity of Largs train station to the Millport ferry and the excellent links to Glasgow Central train station, this is understandably a very popular (and low carbon) way of reaching the Centre. It may be cheaper to book tickets to Glasgow, and then buy a separate ticket for the last short leg of the journey from Glasgow Central to Largs.
- Once you arrive in Largs train station head out the main exit, and once on the high street you will see the ferry slip way100 metres to your left.
- Beside the slip way there is a small ferry office where you can buy a return passenger ticket for under £5. Then board the ferry. Tickets need to be shown at both Largs and Cumbrae slips. Ferry information can be found here: https://www.calmac.co.uk/en-gb/route-information/largs-cumbrae-slip-millport/#/
- Eight minutes after leaving Largs you will arrive on the Cumbrae Slip, where a bus will be waiting.
Currently tickets are £2 for a single journey. The bus stops, about 5 minutes later, outside the Centre, which is at the start of the Millport town 30mph zone.
Please book your ferry ticket in advance on the Calmac Website:
