Valtos Studio is located in the picturesque Clyde coast village of Kilcreggan. Run by artist/maker Nigel Reid-Foster, the studio takes its name from the small coastal village of Bhaltos, situated on the rugged west coast of the Isle of Lewis. Steeped in history and bursting with scenic contrasts, the Western Isles provides a constant source of inspiration.
Valtos Studio’s unique, individually crafted decorative studio ceramics echo pottery forms made long ago by the Pictish people. Raw fire and smoke colour tactile forms, surfaces of turquoise on sandy gold hint at wild seascapes while heavy, tactile and textured grey reflects the ancient stone from which the islands are formed.-
