Cyan Clayworks is a social enterprise and working ceramic studio, run by ceramic makers Fiona and Chris. Since mid 2023 it has been based at its new self contained location in Leith, Edinburgh.

This six week course, run by Fiona and Chris, will run on Thursday evenings from 6 til 8.30. Suitable for both adult beginners and those with some prior experience who would like to refresh and develop their skills further. It will focus on handbuilding and surface decoration.

During the course we will cover different approaches to working creatively with clay by hand, making individually focused pieces. This will include: coil building, slab construction, pinch pots and using press moulds. All of these techniques allow you to explore your creativity and develop unique objects and vessels, whilst building on your practical skills. Most are very traditional but are used by contemporary makers to create a wide variety of work. You will be able to experiment with surface decoration; painting and monoprinting with coloured slips, creating patterns and textures, and glazing. If you've been on a course before you might like to plan some pieces in advance. Handbuilding (particularly coil building) enables you to slow down, take your time on individual pieces, and is generally quite relaxing. Most of the pieces you make will develop gradually over a few weeks while we work on them at different stages.

Starts 24th october.

£270 per person, everything included.
